Global cobalt supply surplus of 10% in 2011

The Cobalt Development Institute reported that global refined cobalt supply increased by approximately 4% to 82,247 tons in 2011, up from 79,262 tons last year. CDI revealed in the April cobalt news magazine that global cobalt consumption increased by about 15% to 75,000 tons. This figure means that the market supply surplus in 2011 was 9.7%. In 2011, Asia (including China) cobalt consumption increased by 18% compared with 2010, while demand in the Americas and Europe increased slowly. In 2011, CDI members' cobalt production increased by 15% to 354,83 tons.
