Demand for drilling chemicals in China will continue to grow

With the constant development of China's oil industry, it is expected that drilling chemicals will maintain a growth rate of more than 3% in the future. This is a prediction made by Yang Xiaohua of Sinopec Petroleum Engineering Technology Research Institute at the National Oilfield Chemicals Development and Application Seminar.

Since 2003, escalating international oil prices has stimulated investment in oil drilling. The demand for drilling chemicals worldwide has also grown rapidly and reached the peak in mid-2008. However, with the advent of the international financial crisis, international crude oil prices have sharply declined, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of oil drillings. The original rapidly growing drilling chemicals market has shrunk. However, Yang Xiaohua said that unlike the weakness in the international market, domestic oil demand is still in a strong growth phase. Oil drilling has begun to develop in the direction of deep wells and ultra-deep wells, providing more room for the development of drilling chemicals. Currently, its use accounts for oil fields. More than 40% of chemicals.

Yang Xiaohua introduced that in order to reduce the production of drilling chemicals, which is vulnerable to the price fluctuations of chemical raw materials, China has increased the intensity of technological innovation. In recent years, a lot of research has been carried out on the actual field of oilfields, focusing on new polymers and natural modified polymers, and has made great progress. The development of dedicated new monomers was targeted. The overall development and application level of drilling fluid treatment agents had reached or approached the international advanced level, and some products even reached the international advanced level.

Although domestic research and development of drilling chemicals have made gratifying progress, they can basically meet the needs of oil drilling under complex conditions. However, in the field of drilling chemicals, there are still a small number of original special products, high-performance, environmentally-friendly products; companies are small, scattered, chaotic, lack of technical support; concept hype, real new products and a series of problems. In this regard, Yang Xiaohua believes that the future of drilling chemicals should focus on deepening the development of natural materials modified products, while strengthening the basic research and the development of new raw materials, new products with special properties. In all aspects of production and application, it is necessary to strengthen exchanges, coordinate research, unify product standards, form large-scale production, avoid unfavorable competition, and increase the overall level of R&D and application of drilling chemicals.
