With the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry, the demand for nickel, cobalt and other necessary raw materials for the preparation of power batteries will continue to grow rapidly in the future.

This project is a key project supported by the Science and Technology Service Network Program (STS Program) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. "The project uses nickel-based minerals as raw materials and often uses pressure leaching technology to prepare the nickel-cobalt-manganese solution into NCM ternary lithium battery cathode precursor materials and high-purity nickel, nickel sulfate, cobalt sulfate, metal cobalt, nickel hydroxide and other products. "Qu Jingkui introduced.

Transforming while conducting scientific research, the Institute cooperates with the Hengshui High-tech Zone. Since May 2018, the nickel-based new material project has completed the project establishment and the 100-ton expansion test. In April this year, it commissioned the test and opened the process flow. Continuous and stable operation has been achieved. The produced metal nickel plates, metal cobalt plates, ternary materials, single crystal superalloys, etc. have been certified by national authoritative testing agencies and have reached relevant national standards.

Qu Jingkui said: "The hydrometallurgical process used in the project has the advantages of less investment, low cost, short process and clean process compared to the traditional pyrotechnic process, and there is no three waste emissions. The new process reduces the cost of the traditional process by 20% . "

Qu Jingkui said that after the successful trial operation, it will start an annual project of processing 500,000 tons of laterite nickel ore to prepare nickel-based new materials.
