According to VentureBeat, Amazon has acquired Ring, a manufacturer of smart doorbells, cameras and security systems. According to Reuters, the deal amounted to more than $1 billion. The acquisition may be announced later today and may power Amazon's home delivery and indoor services market.
Amazon launched its delivery room service Key and CloudCam in October 2017. Subsequently, Assa Abloy, the owner of several lock companies in the world, acquired AugustHome and began to deliver goods to the room. In 2015, AugustHome began trying to provide services within the home to get help from maintenance staff or plumbers, as well as companies that offer vacation rental services such as Airbnb and HomeAway.
According to The Information, Amazon wants to acquire August Homes for $100 million in 2016.
The acquisition of Ring can also support Alexa's expansion to more smart home devices. Prior to this, Google merged its smart home team into the hardware team and introduced the smart assistant Google Assistant to more smart home products.
