The Bremen DFKI Robotics Research Center in Germany has developed a semi-automatic car. It can be rotated in place, reduced in size, and even moved horizontally like a crab, making parking a lot easier.
Currently, the two-seater can be advanced in a traditional way, either diagonally or horizontally. It can also rotate in place and shrink from 8 feet (about 2.5 meters) to 5 feet (about 1.5 meters) while still maintaining a comfortable seating space.
The crab's body is flat and wide, so it can be easily squeezed into a small space. The EOssc2 works in a similar way. The second joint of each leg of the crab is free to move, so it can move laterally. However, some crabs can move back and forth.
The car can reach speeds of up to 40 mph (about 65 km/h). Thanks to its built-in camera and top sensor, it can scan and position the surrounding environment for 10 seconds, enabling semi-automatic driving.
“One day in the future, the car will also be able to drive automatically without the intervention of any passengers,†said the R&D company.
