According to foreign media reports, in a joint research project funded by the Hessen Agentur, the German EDAG Group and Hexagon Purus (a company that installs composite high-pressure vessels and systems on various vehicles) jointly developed hybrid storage System, hope the system can combine the advantages of hybrid power and battery drive.
The research project is scheduled to run for 18 months and aims to develop a flexible vehicle floor storage system in which a new generation of batteries and hydrogen pressure tanks can be installed at the same time, and the storage capacity can be configured according to customer needs. Vehicles installed with this system can use battery power to meet daily driving requirements; and provide energy through fuel cells driven by hydrogen tanks for long-distance travel.
The solution is based on the "EDAG ScaleBase" scalable vehicle platform developed by the EDAG Group, providing advantages for commercial vehicles and private cars. In SCALEbase, the only predefined is the distance between the front wheel and the end of the heel. Other lengths and widths can be changed because of the extensive use of profiles in its steel structure. Therefore, such electric vehicle floor components can be flexibly adjusted and are suitable for all types of medium and high-end electric vehicles.
At the same time, various requirements of automobile companies for vehicles can also be taken into consideration, such as local concept, size, design and factory planning requirements. SCALEbase is also suitable for the integrated structure of the battery system and meets all collision requirements. All in all, on this basis, it is possible for manufacturers to shorten the development cycle of at least 3-4 months and significantly reduce budgets.
