Foreign media reported that British battery company Oxis Energy is working with US aircraft manufacturer Bye Aerospace to develop light lithium-sulfur batteries for the future Bye Aerospace electric aircraft.
The project was launched in September this year and is planned to run for 5 years. It aims to develop batteries with an energy density of 500 Wh / kg by early 2020, but Bye Aerospace will first carry lithium with an energy density of 400 Wh / kg and a capacity of 400 kWh Sulfur battery.
"Our lithium-sulfur batteries and battery systems are ideal for aviation," said Huw Hampson-Jones, CEO of Oxis Energy. They are more than 50% lighter than current lithium-ion batteries and battery systems, and at the same time can help customers significantly reduce the cost of use.
It is understood that Bye Aerospace has developed two small electric airplanes, eFlyer 2 and eFlyer 4, equipped with lithium-sulfur batteries developed by Oxis.
Bye Aerospace said that the company has already obtained 624 purchase orders, of which Norwegian OSM Group has purchased 60 eFlyer 2 and BlackBird has purchased 110 eFlyer 4. At the same time, Bye Aerospace will also work with Uber Elevate on the development of electric vertical aircraft (VTOL) projects.

CODEMGE invested US $ 60 million in the construction of the Belo Horizonte plant. The company has partnered with Siemens Digital Factory, whose goal is to design a plant that will produce approximately 5 million batteries by mid-2020. The battery capacity of the first stage is 2 million batteries per year, and OXIS is expected to complete the first stage capacity target by 2022.
In June, foreign media reported that Oxis Energy announced plans to build the first factory to produce electrolytes and cathode materials, dedicated to the mass production of lithium-sulfur batteries in Port Talbot, Wales. Oxis Energy has signed a 15-year lease for the construction of a factory that will produce cathodes and electrolyte precursors for lithium-sulfur batteries.
