DSM's new carbon fiber filament propulsion additive manufacturing is moving towards industrial production

HC Plastics News:

DSM has introduced a new carbon fiber filled polyamide (PA) 6/66 filament grade – Novamid ID 1030 CF10 for 3D printing. Although carbon fiber is 10% lower than other carbon-filled materials, it can be used to make functional prototypes and industrial parts that are close to the targets that are typically achieved by injection molding, while being simple with non-reinforced plastics. Quick print matches. Novamid ID 1030 CF10 3D is designed for printing structural parts that are significantly stronger, stiffer, have higher tensile strength, greater modulus, dimensional stability, and no warpage.

These excellent mechanical properties and smooth appearance make it an ideal material for many applications, such as under the hood of automotive engines with high temperature resistance, protective and supportive moving gears; manufacturing fixtures; medical brackets and prostheses, etc. . It is also the best material for a variety of vertical market lightweight applications.

The material can be printed on a standard benchtop fuse machine with a hardened nozzle. Tests have shown that users can run the printer at the same speed as non-reinforced plastics while achieving considerable strength and toughness.

“Fuse manufacturing technology is rapidly evolving for prototyping and industrial applications,” said Hugoda Silva, vice president of additive manufacturing at DSM. “With high-performance materials like our new carbon fiber, manufacturers can Use more applications, such as functional prototyping, and durability and structural industrial components to adapt to harsh environments."

The Novamid ID 1030 CF10 has been tested on several open fuse manufacturing platforms, including the German RepRap and the new Ultimaker S5.

Novamid ID 1030 CF10 is available in 1.75 and 2.85 mm sizes for environmentally friendly cardboard spools for easy recycling and is available from DSM AM dealers, including DSM AM dealers FormFutura, MCPP and Nexeo 3D Solutions. DSM recently revealed that the Dutch company FormFutura is its latest AM filament distributor.
