The consumption level of architectural coatings in China is relatively low. China's paint production is the third largest paint producer in the world, behind the United States and Japan. However, due to China's large population, per capita consumption is far below its level compared with industrial developed countries.

Product structure is irrational. China's low-end products for architectural coatings account for a large proportion, and polyvinyl alcohol coatings in architectural coatings account for about 40% of the total amount of architectural coatings. This is the same as in developed countries such as the United States, which has eliminated low-grade polyvinyl alcohol and other coatings and turned them into use. There is a big gap between the main conditions of polyvinyl acetate emulsion and companion acrylic acid emulsion coating. Throughout China's architectural coatings market in recent years, the development trend of China's architectural coatings is accelerating toward the middle and high-end products, but it will take quite a while to fundamentally change the backwardness of low-grade products.

The level of process equipment is low. China's architectural paint manufacturers, in addition to a very small number of production lines imported from abroad, have a relatively high level of technological equipment, and other manufacturers have relatively simple production equipment, and their quality control of process equipment is generally low. The efficiency of production and the stability of product quality are not ideal.

Market competitiveness is low. According to the incomplete statistics of more than 4,000 architectural coatings companies distributed throughout the country, most of them are small, earth, and scattered enterprises. Due to the small scale of production, poor technical quality, low management level, high production costs, and low productivity lead to direct corporate The economic efficiency is poor and the development base is weak.

Technological research work is weak. Due to the lack of funds for scientific and technological development, the lack of scientific research forces, and the achievements in scientific research of architectural coatings are few. After a new coating is applied to a building, the problems of exposure are often many. Not only affected the reputation of coating companies, but also greatly hindered the promotion and development of coating companies themselves. In the research and development of architectural coating technology, there were many low repetitions and few innovations. Compared with advanced countries in foreign countries, the gap is not generally large.
