This is BYD's first new energy electric vehicle production base in Europe.

BYD's plant in the northern city of Komarom in Hungary will be officially put into operation in the first quarter of 2017. It will be used mainly for the production of zero-emission pure electric buses and forklifts. It will also have its own R&D center and battery testing equipment. The entire factory covers an area of 66,000 square meters, with an annual production capacity of 400 vehicles, directly creating 300 jobs.

At the press conference, He Yipeng, general manager of BYD's European car sales division, said that the reason why he chose to set up a factory in Hungary is because Hungary is located in central Europe, with a long history of bus manufacturing and superb engineering, and Hungary. Strong support was given. He said that this is the first factory invested by BYD in Europe, but it is by no means the last one. At present, BYD is actively selecting a site to seek other suitable construction sites.

Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economics Minister Sylto said that the Hungarian government has subsidized 923 million HUF (about 3.4 million US dollars) for BYD's investment in setting up a factory. He said that by producing electric vehicles, Hungary will also contribute to the realization of global climate policy goals while improving its competitiveness.

Duan Jielong, Chinese ambassador to Hungary, said that with the continuous deepening of cooperation within the framework of “One Belt, One Road” and “16+1”, the amount of investment by Chinese-funded enterprises in Hungary has exceeded US$3.1 billion. From January to July this year, the trade volume between China and Hungary reached US$4.89 billion, an increase of 9.8% year-on-year. As an important part of bilateral relations, economic and trade relations between the two countries are injecting new impetus into the development of bilateral relations.

It is reported that BYD pure electric green bus has been driving on the roads of 52 cities in Europe. Some analysts pointed out that the establishment of the Hungarian factory will lay a solid foundation for BYD's important position in the European market.
