This work is an award-winning work of the 11th World Small Building Project Design Award of the American Institute of Architects. This three-bedroom holiday home is built on a cliff on the southern coast. The top floor is full of vegetables and can see nearly 80 meters of cliff seascape. It was recently designed by the architectural design firm Fougeron Architecture in San Francisco, USA on the California coastline. The “luxury houseâ€, named Fall House, uses a lot of sustainable technology to see the beautiful Pacific Ocean. But its highlight is the use of copper plates to create roofs and curtain walls that slowly weather with the sea breeze.

A large number of transparent glass walls
This chic villa is situated on a steep cliff in the Pacific Ocean, Big Sur, California, just 250 feet from the Pacific Ocean. The building is built according to the trend and is geometrically shaped to blend in with the surrounding environment. From the straight line to the rear step, it stands on the slope of the cliff. There are three bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, library and office area. The south side of the building is protected by copper in the form of copper. The north is transparent. Fragile glass, with a unique view. The main axis of the building is about 12 feet from the edge of the cliff to avoid damaging the fragile ecosystem of the cliff and ensuring the integrity and safety of the building structure. The exterior part of the building is
Surrounded by copper to protect the privacy of the house; the sea side uses a large number of transparent glass walls, doors and windows and skylights, making the building look transparent and bright, from the interior to the magnificent sea view, and cantilever design The master bedroom gives a unique living experience.
Building a house on a wasteland is a very radical practice. Building the house on a spectacular natural landscape on the Pacific coast is a challenge that must take into account the landscape and allow for changes in the landscape. This home on the spectacular South Coast of Big Sur has the beauty of nature and California. The designer's idea is to embed the house in this landscape and create an inseparable structure from the landscape. This location has a spectacle: 250 feet below the cliff is the deep Pacific Ocean.

The house adopts a variety of sustainable green design strategies, which can be described as full green houses, including: combining the sun to natural daylighting, reducing artificial lighting; using low-radiation, high-performance Bori; liquid circulation heating system; natural ventilation building layout Drought-resistant and native vegetation; high-efficiency municipal piping equipment; low-VOC, sustainable interior coatings, etc. The entire house consists of two rectangular spaces that are tightly connected to the sloping floor and are connected by large glass. Fall
House has two curtain walls. The curtains in the south are in contact with the wind and rain from the Pacific Ocean. The eaves can withstand the changes in the climate and can also limit the effects of solar radiant heat. The northern curtain wall is entirely made of glass, maximizing the visual angle. In modern buildings, the use of copper as a material is still not common. According to Fougeron Architecture, copper is chosen because it is relatively durable and does not burn (where the home is located in a flammable fire area). Copper will be weathered, allowing the house to blend with the surrounding environment, and weathering will not harm it.
The south side is covered with copper to prevent direct sunlight from entering the room, creating a warm living space.
The house is equipped with "Low-E" glass, under the floor is a radiation circulation heating system and a denim-free denim - a harmless insulating material. The Fall House's large open design makes it easy to ventilate. And the automatically opened windows help to extract cold air from the lower part of the house and then exhaust the hot air from a vent window near the roof. The Fougeron Architecture also adds drought-tolerant native plants to reduce soil erosion. The roof of a small piece of greenery also helps to insulate. The house is also designed with a rainwater harvesting system. The nearby creek will also supplement the water supply.
